Compatible

There’s an eight year age gap between my boyfriend and I. And he’s the most compatible man I’ve ever met. Age gaps get stigmatized as “weird” or “creepy”, but we fit together like two pieces of a puzzle.

When we met, we were both nearing the end of two different decades, but we fit. Neither of us wanted kids. We both love cats. We both LOVE making food together. We’re both nerds. We’re both introverts. We are compatible and in love.

It’s not a conventional relationship necessarily. We’ve been together for over three years and still don’t live together because I’ve been in college and couldn’t afford it. And again, the eight year difference in our ages.

But that’s not the stuff that matters. The deep stuff matters. The same values, the same wants and needs out of life, similar interests, love of cats, distaste for having children. The real stuff. The good stuff.

We haven’t followed the traditional road map for relationships. But that’s okay because we’re creating our own path.
